Established in 2013, Forefront Suicide Prevention is a leader in advocating for policy changes and disseminating evidence-based approaches to suicide prevention in Washington state and beyond. Its mission is to educate and empower individuals and communities to improve mental health services and suicide prevention policy. The organization supports the training of health care professionals who assess, manage and treat those at risk for suicide, and encourages the news media to report responsibly on suicide and mental health issues.

Forefront has forged numerous innovative collaborations to develop and deploy high-impact evidence-based interventions. In 2015, the group formed a partnership with Facebook to provide content and expertise to launch a suicide-prevention resource hub for Facebook users. Forefront was also awarded a three-year $300,000 suicide prevention grant from the federally funded Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to launch Husky Help & Hope, a comprehensive suicide prevention initiative at the University of Washington Seattle campus. The group has used this effort as a springboard to establish similar programs at universities and colleges across Washington state. Other broad-based efforts include suicide-prevention efforts in rural Washington state counties, Forefront in the Schools, and a partnership with gun dealers and pharmacies to reduce deaths by suicide.
