School researchers receive Population Health grant to support mental health of BIPOC and LGBTQ individuals

Two UW School of Social Work PhD candidates, Sarah Porter and Kelsey M. Conrick, along with Megan Moore, the School’s Sidney Miller Endowed Associate Professor in Direct Practice, are part of a multidisciplinary research team exploring the impact of social policies on the mental health of Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) as well as LGBTQ individuals. The project is funded by the UW Population Health Initiative.

Raquel Montoya-Lewis, Washington State Supreme Court justice and youth advocate, is School of Social Work’s graduation speaker for 2023

Raquel Montoya-Lewis (MSW ’96), the first Native American justice to serve on the Washington State Supreme Court and the second Native American to ever serve on any state’s supreme court, will give the keynote address at the University of Washington’s School of Social Work’s graduation celebration, to be held Thursday, June 8, from 7-9 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.

Dean Edwina Uehara selected for 2023 lifetime achievement award

Edwina (Eddie) Uehara, dean of the University of Washington School of Social Work, has been selected to receive the lifetime achievement award from the National Association of Social Workers Washington chapter, recognizing her lifetime of contributions to the social work profession in Washington state and across the country.

Karina Walters appointed director of NIH Tribal Health Research Office

Karina Walters, professor and co-director of the Indigenous Wellness Research Institute at the University of Washington’s School of Social Work, has been appointed director of the Tribal Health Research Office at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
