School of Social Work reaffirms pledge to support and defend DACA

Today, Dean Edwina Uehara—on behalf of the School of Social Work faculty council, staff council and deans—reaffirmed the School's commitment to support and defend the students and the communities impacted by the Trump Administration's decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program if legislative action is not taken in six months.

Karen Fredriksen-Goldsen leads new national study on health of lesbian, gay and bisexual older adults

In general, lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) older adults were found to be in poorer health than heterosexuals, according to a new national study led by social work professor Karen Fredriksen-Goldsen. At the same time, however, findings point to areas of resilience, with more LGB adults engaging in preventive health measures.

The School of Social Work recently added the Center for Education Data and Research, an organization which conducts policy-relevant research on complex education issues, to the School's network of research and innovation centers.

School of Social Work issues open letter denouncing white supremacist violence

In a recent open letter, the UW School of Social Work strongly denounced the white supremacist violence witnessed on the weekend of Aug. 11 in Charlottesville, Virginia. "These types of domestic terrorist acts and hate-based events are against everything we stand for as social workers, as members of the School of Social Work community, and as people fighting for an inclusive democracy."
