2022 School of Social Work Graduation Celebration

This year’s celebration welcomed 327 graduates to the global social work community. We congratulate the School of Social Work Class of 2022! You are passionate, bold and resilient agents of change.

About this year’s keynote speaker — Girmay Zahilay was born in Sudan to Ethiopian refugees, Girmay Zahilay and his family moved to the U.S. when he was three. He graduated from Stanford University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School and interned at the White House during the Obama administration. To better connect with the communities he wanted to serve, Zahilay founded the nonprofit Rising Leaders. In 2019, he was elected to represent District 2 for the King County Council, its youngest member and the only sitting Black county council member in Washington state. Read more about Councilmember Zahilay.
