Why did you decide to major in Social Welfare? My drive and passion to improve mental wellness in the Black community is what inspired me to take on a major in Social Welfare. I have witnessed and personally experienced the effects of racial trauma and am committed to being a part of the healing of those in my community.

Shirah may be new to CWTAP, but she has over two decades of training and development experience in facilitation, designing, and developing adult learning experience in the automotive industry. Her dedication to education is evident through her M. A. in Adult Learning and Education. Shirah's passion lies in applying her extensive knowledge to the social work field. Furthermore, she has experience in spearheading projects within her congregation to benefit the community.

Griffin Street, MSW, LICSW (she/her) has 15 years of experience working in community mental health organizations. She has worked as mental health clinician at Sound and Therapeutic Health Services (THS) in Seattle, serving a diverse client population with assessment, treatment planning and service provision that met each client’s individual needs.  Most clients served by these agencies live at or below the federal poverty level; many are experiencing homelessness when they enroll for services.  Griffin has worked with clients with a broad range of mental health disorders from schizophrenia
