Please help us welcome Hoang Ngo, new assistant director of the PhD Program, who joined the School community on Tues., March 24.

Hoang brings with him great experience as a student services administrator and program manager. Before joining our staff, he was graduate education administrator at the University of Chicago, and before that, he was graduate program coordinator at Seattle University.

Hoang attended the University of Washington where he received his PhD in history with a focus on Southeast Asian studies. While pursuing his graduate degree, he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship and a UW Presidential Dissertation Fellowship. His undergraduate degree is from the University of California at Davis.

He considers himself a mentor, fundraiser and storyteller as well as an administrator, and he is passionate about helping students reach their full potential. He has volunteered in several nonprofits, including the Asian Counseling and Referral Service, Sanctuary Café and Project Feast.

When not working, he likes to explore the intersection of diaspora, food and storytelling with his wife and two daughters who remind him of the importance of being happy.

If you’d like to welcome Hoang remotely, you can email him at ngohoang@uw.edu. If you have questions about the PhD program, please email sswphdpr@uw.edu until Hoang has completed his orientation next month.
