We are thrilled to welcome T Ciak (they/them) to the School of Social Work and Student Services as our new MSW academic advisor. In this position, T will advise MSW students, primarily in the Extended Degree Program, on university policies, assist with class registration and progress, and provide individual and group support to students. T will also manage the Student Services communication and social media accounts, keeping students informed about important updates, events and opportunities.
T earned their degree from Seattle Central College in applied behavioral science. Previously, T worked as an advocate for survivors of gender-based violence at Jewish Family Service. In addition to client-facing trauma work and resource coordination, T co-facilitated quarterly survivor support groups and created weekly education content. Well-versed in legal, housing and systems advocacy, T is able to provide comprehensive support and care to those seeking support. Their holistic approach to student support highlights the importance of an educational experience that goes beyond the academic curriculum.
T is an impassioned mixed Filipinx-Polish gender-queer femme, friend, partner and comrade. They deeply believe in truth and justice, and their intersecting identities help to inform their work. From Detroit (and proud of it!). T will soon celebrate their fourteenth Seattle anniversary where they live with their long-time anchor partner, one silly cat and a very sweet Yorkie. Lover of adventure, Vietnamese coffee, Joshua Tree, Halloween and music, they are looking forward to working with and meeting you all.
The best way for students to reach T is to send email to mswadvising@uw.edu or tciak@uw.edu.
Please join us in welcoming T to the School of Social Work and Student Services.
