Stacey De Fries joined the School of Social Work faculty as a full-time lecturer and field faculty instructor in 2011. She teaches in field education courses and across the MSW curriculum.. Prior to joining the School of Social Work, Stacey directed the implementation of a federally funded research project in partnership with UW emeritus psychology professor and author John Gottman (Loving Couples, Loving Children) at the Center for Human Services, a community-based nonprofit agency serving youth and families in the Puget Sound area. During that time, she served as a field instructor and was a member of the School of Social Work Practicum Advisory Committee. She has also served on the board of the Washington State Clinical Social Work Society.

From 2002 to 2007, Stacey coordinated statewide public health data projects and program evaluation for the Washington State Department of Health’s Children with Special Health Care Needs Program. And from 2000 to 2002, she provided training and technical assistance for the Ounce of Prevention Fund in Chicago and conducted case reviews for program evaluation at the Administration for Children Services in New York City.

Stacey received her master’s degree in social work from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in New York City and earned a bachelor’s degree in social welfare from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
